7 Great Qualities of a Surefire Domain Name

I cant stress the importance of a great domain name. Having one can surprisingly increase your returning visitors and search engine rankings.

Here are some good traits you consider before buying your domain names:


  1. No hyphen- Try to avoid having a hyphen in your domain.  It is not easy for your surfers to remember the hyphen especially when typing your domain in their browser or when recommending your website to their friends. Use it only as a last resort.  Use it only in the case that you find a domain you really want already registered.
  2. Popular extension- Always go for .com . 95% of the time I will dismiss a domain if the .com version is already registered but occasionally I don’t mind settling for .net.  Having the popular extension not only provides some sense of credibility but makes the website as a whole more professional.
  3. Meaningful and descriptive-Your domain name should be meaningful. It should bear a meaningful label for your site. It should describe your website concept.If your selling pottery you would want your domain to be something like…www.potteryforsale.com not www.thatthingyoumold.com .
  4. Unique- Come up with a domain name that is unique. It will identify your website as being one of a kind.
  5. Short- Keep it short and to the point. No one likes a domain that would take few minutes to type in. The perfect length of a domain in my opinion is 3 words as that’s all you would need to describe your website precisely without having a “long domain”.
  6. Keyword-It is such a great idea to include your websites main keyword in your domain name. I can’t tell you how many people underestimate this. It can allow for the extra boost needed to get past your comeptition
  7. Easily Remembered and Memorialized-Select a domain name that surfers will recall easily at any time and one they are able to memorize.

Now that you have got the qualities, It’s time to register your domain name.Relax! Godaddy is a good option if just planning to buy a domain. But if you want the whole package (hosting included) I would tell you to visit my little friend hostgator. Make sure to watch out; he bites.
